Glorious Glads

The tall stems of garden gladiolus last for days as new buds open. After putting the flowers in a vase, add river rock (#139539) to stabilize the stems and add visual intrigue. Add water, and savor the view.

Heavenly Hydrangeas

These flowers have timeless appeal, but their delicate blossoms fade after only a few days. Help them last by changing the water daily. For a graceful arrangement, leave the stems long; for a modern touch, cut them short. We revamped vases from flower-shop arrangements with a coat of glass frosting (see "The Frosting on Top") for a casual look.

Delicate Dahlias

For a classy, colorful arrangement, clip the blooms at the base, and float them in a shallow dish of water. To create your own simple display dishes, spray-paint terra-cotta saucers with your favorite colors.

Celebrate the vibrant colors of summer with a vase full of zinnias. For a casual look, cut and loosely arrange the flowers into a vase. We dressed up our display by wrapping sisal rope (#66522, found in the hardware department), around the base and securing it with a glue gun (#75473).

Lovely Lilies

Lilies make for enduring arrangements, thanks to the numerous buds often clipped along with their blooming stems. For a whimsical touch, cut cucumber slices about 1/4-inch thick and add to water in the vase-they'll complement the lime green buds.
