Kitty Play Station

Your cat will dance with joy over this easy-to-make, springy, kitty play station.

Create this springy play station and watch your cat romp, scratch and bat around.

Instructions:

1. Cut the dowel to 30 inches. Drill a 9/16-inch hole through dowel, 3 inches from the top. Drill a second 9/16-inch hole perpendicular to the first hole, 10 inches from top.

2. Determine which side of 15 inch round base is the bottom and mark the center. Set the end of the dowel on the center of the bottom and trace around it leaving a circle. Drill a 5/32-inch pilot hole in the center of the bottom.

3. Drill a 3/32-inch pilot hole in the center of the bottom end of the dowel.

4. Secure the dowel to the base with the #8 x 3-inch wood screw through the pilot holes. Using the drawn circle as a guide, place two more #8 x 3-inch wood screws on either side of the first screw to go through the base and into the dowel.

5. Wrap clear tape around the end of the sisal rope to prevent unraveling. Use a brad to secure the end of the sisal at the base end of the dowel.

6. Carefully wrap sisal rope around the dowel, spiraling it up from the base to lower hole. Cut the rope and wrap the end with clear tape. Secure the end of the rope with a brad just beneath the hole.

7. Thread the springs through the holes in the dowel so they protrude evenly on both sides. Wrap clear tape around the ends of rope and fish through the springs leaving enough hanging from either side of the spring to fray and knot. (Note: Instead of fraying the ends of the rope, you can knot the ends or make a sisal tassel.)

8. Watch Kitty scratch and play.

Good to Know: Practice drilling holes through the dowel in the portion that has been cut off. Thread the springs through the dowel to insure the correct size of the holes.
