Entertain With Ease

It's time to ring in the New Year. Try a few of our quick, adaptable projects for impressive, yet stress-free, party decor.

Entertain With Ease

With these simple tricks using a few easy-to-find products, you'll spend less time preparing for holiday celebrations and more time enjoying them. Here, an ordinary round table and party chairs are transformed into a whimsical reminder of the coming new year. A monochromatic color scheme of silver and turquoise makes for a traditional, yet sophisticated, New Year's Eve theme. These ideas can be modified to fit any occasion—just change the color palette.

Festive Chairs
Great Gifts for Gardeners

Beautiful place cards invite guests to gather together.

First write each guest's name on a piece of 3 1/2- x 2-inch card stock. Then use galvanized wire (#62934) to attach an ornament to a sprig of painted holly; we used aqua-blue spray paint (#244146). Using another piece of wire, poke a hole through a corner of the place card. Secure the pieces together, and then tie to the back of the chair using wire. Finish with silver ribbon (#241353) tied into a bow.

Timely Toast

The whole gang contributes to the end-of-year countdown.

Using adhesive numbers found in the hardware department, apply 1 through 10 (depending on the number of guests) on separate champagne flutes (plastic or glass). When guests arrive, assign each one a numbered flute. The numbers are easy to peel off, and they help guests keep up with their glasses during the party. As the final countdown begins, each guest can raise a glass sequentially for the toast.

Snappy Centerpiece

A reflective tablescape invokes festivity.

Spray-paint holly using metallic colors; we chose silver (#62879) and aqua blue (#244146). Place beveled mirror tiles (#197429) on the tabletop. On the mirrors, arrange the painted holly, pillar candles, and small clocks to keep track of the countdown.

Savory Favors

Special extras delight revelers at their place settings.

Cut contractor's paper (#125855) into 8-inch squares. Paint the squares using a metallic-colored spray paint; we chose silver (#62879). Let dry. Roll one corner of the square toward the opposite corner to form a cone. Secure with a glue gun (#75473). Line the cones with wax paper, and fill them with chocolate candies and nuts. Place the cones in champagne flutes.

These "social bookmarking" services make it easier to share and manage your favorite online content.

StumbleUpon, digg, and del.icio.us help you gather content from around the web, describe it how you see fit, and tag it for easy sorting. These sites also allow you to see what other people are gathering and tagging (if they've made it public), and find new content that may interest you.

Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace also allow you to share content that you find interesting, with people who visit or subscribe to your personal profile.
