Bamboo Shade Table Runner

Dress up any meal with this natural shade turned into a table runner.

Run With It

Step 1:
Select a shade in a width that suits your table and is at least 1 foot longer than the table. We used a 23- x 72-inch pecan-colored Jakarta bamboo shade (#120320).

Step 2:
Measure 6 inches in from each short end of the shade, and dab or brush a thin line of wood glue across the width of the shade at this point (to keep the strings from unraveling later). When the glue has dried, remove the individual bamboo sticks from each end up to the line of glue. Tie each length of twine in a knot to secure the last bamboo sticks. Knot the twine to secure the dowels.

Step 3:
Using a handsaw, cut two 3/8-inch-thick square dowels to fit the width of your shade. Using a rag, apply stain to the dowels, and allow to dry. Wrap the twine around each dowel at each short end of the shade, and tie the twine in a knot to secure (as shown). Arrange the finished shade on your table.

StumbleUpon, digg, and del.icio.us help you gather content from around the web, describe it how you see fit, and tag it for easy sorting. These sites also allow you to see what other people are gathering and tagging (if they've made it public), and find new content that may interest you.

Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace also allow you to share content that you find interesting, with people who visit or subscribe to your personal profile.
