Fall Palette

Trend Report :: Globally Inspired Color

Diverse cultures come together in these well-traveled fall palettes.

Craft Table in Garage

You can experience a place by savoring native flavors and aromas. You also can come to know a place through colors—the colors of its foods, landscapes, and architecture. Imagine the intense hues and textures at a Middle Eastern bazaar, with a bright rainbow of fabrics that were dyed using local plants and spices. Or picture an African vista, painted with many subtle shades of green and brown. Now, incorporate these places and sensations into your home with this season’s palettes.

Neutral Ground

Harvest colors that are inspired by exotic landscapes dominate the neutral palette. Think of coffee plantations, rice fields, and oyster beds. The colors of these settings can provide a backdrop in a space, covering large surfaces, such as walls, ceilings, and floors. Old-world chestnut hues also give depth to a room. Start with this palette as a base, and then use accents of color to create the perfect fall look in your home.

Worldly Goods

From vivid to serene, the fall palette includes a melting pot of accent colors. Oriental rug designs serve as the muse for enriching base tones, such as rich browns and butternuts. Brighter colors in aquas and sunny yellows add festive flair. Elements of the sea are calming companions to these shades, with soft blues and greens. Bring accent colors into a room with pillows, rugs, lamps, and other accessories.

Seasonal Star

Red-purple shades, such as raspberry, are well on their way to becoming classics. Prominent in many cultures, such warm, alluring colors can be found on a sari in India or a serape in Mexico. Use with abandon, or sparingly as an accent.
