Get More Out Of A Floor

Give a ho-hum concrete floor a little pizzazz by making a “rug” with concrete stain. We used three different shades of Quikrete stain to create a subtle yet stylish pattern.

	CHOOSE a pattern (or download ours); scale it to fit your patio. Remove all loose particles, clean, and dry.

	DRAW your pattern using a carpenter’s pencil and ruler. It’s easiest to start in the middle and work out from there.

	TAPE each line with painter’s tape—be sure to keep the tape on the same side of the line across the patio.

	CUT pieces of cardboard in the sizes determined from the pattern in Step 1. Trace each shape, referring to the pattern for guidance. Pour stain colors into small buckets or trays; tape off non-touching squares throughout the patio.

	MIST the taped-off squares with water.

	DIP a damp sponge into the stain and blot it against the concrete. Apply a second coat for deeper hues. Let dry, then apply sealant.
