Leaf Stepping Stones

The warm days of summer provide reason enough to kick off your shoes and skip barefoot across the lawn. Our leaf-shaped stepping-stones can provide a path that naturally blends with the landscape. Follow these instructions to make your own.

  1. Leaf Stepping StonesLay out a piece of contractor’s paper or a drop cloth to serve as a work surface. Place your selected leaves facedown. Tip: Use large leaves from plants such as hostas for a detailed pattern. In a bucket or pail, mix two cups of cement with 1 cup of water to create a thick paste.
  2. Leaf Stepping StonesUse a putty knife to spread the cement mixture onto each leaf, being careful to stay within the outer edges of the leaf’s shape. Apply a 1/2- to 1-inch-thick layer of the mixture to each leaf.
  3. Leaf Stepping StonesAllow the cement to set for approximately two hours. Flip the mold over, and remove each leaf.
  4. Allow the stones to sit overnight to dry completely.
Good To Know

Mix in a few drops of Quikrete’s liquid cement color, found in the paint department, to the cement mixture for colorful stones.

Leaf Stepping StonesFor a rustic look, leave the leaf on the cement and allow it to peel away naturally.
