Decorating: Christmas Lights – Bright Ideas

Take your Christmas decorations outside, and create sparkling scenes with these easy projects.

Christmas Lights

Wreath Chandelier

Select an artificial battery-operated Christmas wreath (#267523) with a timer. Measure the wire frame on the back of the wreath, and then attach five cup hooks (#99936) to your porch ceiling in a circle the size of the frame. Hang the wreath from the cup hooks, and decorate with Christmas ornaments. We mixed gold balls (#239881) with onion-shaped ornaments (#279872) and gold floral accents (#289099).

Twinkling Towers

Reuse your summer tomato cages to create sparkling decorations. Stack three cages, and bind them together using 14-gauge wire. Apply white spray paint (#99503) to a 6-gallon metal can (#195272) and to the tomato cages. Decorate the cages with wire and Christmas ornaments. Attach C9 Christmas lights (#14817) around the top of the cans using hot glue. Drill holes in the back of the cans, and run extension cords from the lights to an outlet. Place the cages in the cans, and fill in with white pebbles (#2527). Use wire to form a star and attach to the top.

Snowflake Christmas Tree

The kids will love decorating outdoor trees. Get neighbors together to brighten shared spaces.

Snowflake Christmas Tree Hang large snowflake lights (#42719) on an evergreen tree in your yard. Add a lit reindeer statue (#308745) nearby to complete the wintry scene.

Bird Feeder Lanterns

Attach cup hooks (#33747) at intervals along one wall, and hang a chain (#51843) on the hooks. Wrap LED Christmas lights (#20877) along the chain. Fill the mesh bird feeders (#70283) with lights at each interval. Hang the feeders from the cup hooks. A fireplace screen (#291640) keeps stray sparks from flying and adds a decorative touch.

Windows Aglow

Hang a planted window box on the deck railing or under a window. (We planted fragrant rosemary trees.) Cut garden stakes (#189477) the height of your plants, and insert them into the soil. The stakes will lend support to the lights and be concealed by the plants. Wrap small twinkle Christmas lights (#176681) around the plants and stakes. Choose light clips designed specifically for attaching decorations to shingles, roofs, gutters, and decks.

We have the 60 in lighted reindeer and the lights on the antlers went out. Everything else is beautifully lit. Can't seem to figure out why. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!
