Dressing Bench

Step 1: Create a base frame (scribed to fit) for the wall cabinet by assembling 1 x 4 pieces as shown in Figure 1. Join the 1 x 4 pieces with glue and nails.

Step 2: Attach the wall cabinet to the base frame assembly using glue and nails.

Step 3: Cut a 24-inch-wide base panel to 60 inches long, and attach to the back of the wall cabinet and base frame assembly using glue and nails. (See Figure 2.)

Step 4: Position the valance at the top of the inside of the wall cabinet and flush with the front edges. Attach using glue and nails.

Step 5: Position the dressing bench assembly in the desired location, and attach to the wall studs using 2 1/4-inch screws.

Step 6: Scribe and miter cut the crown moulding to fit around the top of the base panel. Attach using glue and nails.

Step 7: Scribe and miter cut the flat moulding to fit around the top edge of the wall cabinet and along the outer edges of the base panel as shown in Figure 2. Attach using glue and wire brads.

Step 8: Scribe and miter cut the base moulding to fit around the base frame assembly. Attach using glue and nails.

Step 9: Fill holes with wood filler, sand, prime, and paint.
